2nd.—The Audible Voice of the Invisible.
The sacred writings abound in proof on this head. Job iv. 15-16 says : "Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up. It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof; an image was before mine eyes; there was silence, and I heard a voice saying," &c. Luke ix. 35 : "And there came a voice out of the cloud saying, this is my beloved son, hear him." Acts ix. 4, 7 : "And he fell to the earth, and I heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me . . . And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no man." It would be simply a waste of space to quote passages to prove that some spiritual being or beings could and did speak in audible and intelligible language; but, pray, what means of identification?
