Harriers
Harriers.
Wellington Harrier Clubs were greeted by most unfavourable weather on the occasion of the annual inter-club race for the Vosseler Shield on Saturday. A strong and surprisingly cold "northerly" bringing a driving rain in its wake made the course very heavy and slippery, and the times consequently slower. Nevertheless a very large field turned out quite undaunted and we congratulate the Brooklyn Club on their win.
For the first time since the inception of the Club, Varsity finished a complete team, though last year Bagnall secured for us the individual title. We hope, however, that this year's rather disappointing efforts will spur the Club on to a more meritorious performance next year. D. Scrymgeour ran a good race to finish 21st in the aggregate, and first man home for Varsity. He was followed closely by Bagnall, Price and Viggers, all of whom also ran well. Bagnall showed a glimpse of his old form and we hope that despite pressure of work, he will be in the front rank again before the season closes. For a comparative newcomer, E. Rockel showed that he possesses stamina and determination.
Next Saturday's run will be held from Khandallah where the Club will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Cornish. The Visitors' pack will again be functioning for any who desire a pleasant outing on the hills of Wellington.
Particulars will be posted at Varsity during the week.
