Summer Vacation Employment for Students

Summer Vacation Employment for Students

For the last two years students have experienced difficulty finding summer vacation jobs. The latest Department of Labour's statistics show that the number of people currently unemployed or on special work is larger than at this time last year so that it is likely that students will find vacation jobs are in short supply this coming summer.

Many students need a job over the summer months in order to save money to meet next year's living expenses. The tertiary bursary is fixed on the assumption that students will be able to save a substantial sum from their vacations earnings to help support themselves during the following academic year.

The Careers Advisory Service invites employers who are planning to take on students as temporary workers over the coming summer months to let the Service have details of the number of vacancies, duties, hours of work and rates of pay by 25 October, 1977 or as soon after this date as is practical as some students will finish their examinations by 11 November.

The University would be grateful if those employers who have not previously employed students over the summer or who are not planning to do so this year because of the economic situation, could re-examine their staffing requirements to see if some students could be employed during the vacation.

If you can employ students over the summer please telephone or write to Careers Advisory Service with the details preferably by 25 October, 1977 or as soon after is as practical. The address is:

Careers Advisory Service, Victoria University of Wellington,Private Bag,Wellington.Telephone: 728 150 or 721 000 ext. 856.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated by both students and the University.
