The Founders of Canterbury
N. Z. House, 11th December, 1847
My Dear Godley,
—I write in the Board Room of the. Company, where the Church plan has been largely discussed by a committee appointed to consider it. In general terms they adopt our view, but along with suggestions by the Commissioner for placing as much management as possible in the hands of the Society instead of the Company, with which I wholly agree.
"With respect to your own position I think there will be no difficulty in making an arrangement satisfactory to you.
But I shall have to write again before next week is out. Meanwhile you will receive a box containing all sorts of informing papers about the past and present state of New Zealand colonization.
