The Founders of Canterbury
Reigate, 12th July, 1850
My Dear Sewell,
—Lord Lyttelton is out of Town.
There is a hitch about the Bishopric; Dr. Selwyn's "consent" being said to be indispensable before the Bishopric of New Zealand can be diminished. If the objection should hold, it will be a good illustration of the misery of distant government, and of the unbusiness-like ways of the Association.
