The Founders of Canterbury
John Abel Smith, Esq.Reigate, 16th November, 1849
Dear John Abel Smith,
—If you would meet me for some confidentially friendly talk, your puzzle would soon be unravelled, and you would be glad that you had taken the trouble. I am not strong enough to offer to go to town. I am sure that you will be sorry if you do not without delay get to understand the whole case, which has no relation whatever to government in New Zealand. None of those whom you have alone consulted, could inform you of the points that I wish you to consider and act upon.
