Awards

The following awards were received by members of the New Zealand Ordnance Corps in the Pacific:—

Lieutenant-Colonel Maurice Salon Myers: United States Legion of Merit, degree of officer. Citation: Colonel Myers has been head of the Ordnance Service of this division since its arrival in the South Pacific area in November 1942. Throughout his employment in this capacity he has rendered signal service to the division, notably in regard to the procurement of equipment which has been supplied to us through American sources. Without his careful foresight and planning the equipment problems of the Third New Zealand Division would have been much greater than they proved to be.

Lieutenant George Rupert Gable: Member of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Citation: This officer has, by ingenuity and improvisation, showed great initiative and ability in overcoming difficulties and in carrying out his work during the whole period of his services in Fiji, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Vella Lavella and Green Island. In so doing he has set an outstanding example to his men in carrying out their work of maintaining the division's equipment at a high standard of serviceability.

Mentioned in despatches: Warrant-Officer James Roughan and Armourer-Sergeant William J. Pearson.
