The Rev. Michael Underhill, MA (Oxon), m.i.d., was educated at Shrewsbury School, The Queen's College, Oxford, and Westcott House Theological College, Cambridge. In 1938 he came to New Zealand as Vicar of Raetihi and Ohakune, and in 1941–45 served in the Middle East as a chaplain in the 27th (Machine Gun) and 25th Battalions, 2nd NZEF. He is at present Vicar of a town parish in Carlisle.

Sydney D. Waters is the Naval Archivist and War Historian. As a journalist he has specialised in naval and merchant shipping affairs and has written several books, including two histories of the New Zealand Shipping Company. He served as a gunner in the 1st NZEF in the First World War and was a member of the staff of Naval Intelligence Branch at Navy Office in 1941–45.

Squadron Leader J. M. S. Ross, BA (Oxon), BA (NZ), is in charge of the Historical Records Section, RNZAF, and is writing the History of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. 1911–45. He served in the RNZAF in the Pacific.

The Rev. N. E. Winhall, MBE, L Th., served as a chaplain in the Middle East with the 2nd NZEF in 1940–41, until he was invalided home. In October 1942 he was appointed a Senior Chaplain in New Zealand. He has been a member of the Chaplains' Dominion Advisory Council since 1944 and is Senior Chaplain to the Forces (Church of England) in New Zealand. He is Vicar of St. Andrew's. Epsom.
