the author: Mr Robin Langford Kay, BA, served with 2 NZEF in the Middle East before joining the Army Archives Section, which collected and collated the available material covering New Zealand's part in the Second World War, and he subsequently became a research officer and archivist with the War History Branch of the Department of Internal Affairs. He has written the basic narratives for parts of the North African and Italian campaigns; he is the author of the history of 27 (Machine Gun) Battalion, and has assisted the authors of other histories published by the Branch.
