The Mounted Riflemen in Sinai and Palestine: The Story of New Zealand's Crusaders

Introductory Note by Col. Findlay, C.B., D.S.O., CO. Canterbury Mounted Rifles

page 5

Introductory Note by Col. Findlay, C.B., D.S.O., CO. Canterbury Mounted Rifles.

The work of our Mounted Brigade in Egypt and Palestine has throughout the War been little heard of in New Zealand, probably owing to the bigger operations in France and Flanders. That is to some extent excusable on account of the comparatively few men in a Mounted Brigade compared with an Infantry Division. The Author describes very capably the interesting and historical country operated in, and the many difficulties and hardships experienced in our various engagements. The reader should get a good general idea of the very strenuous life of a Mounted Rifleman on active service, and will have his mind disabused of the fairly common fallacy that our Mounted men were merely tourists.
