This book is dedicated in all humility by one of those who "came through" to the memory of our Glorious Dead. It was they who made the name of the Brigade to be feared by the enemy; and to be honoured above all others by those with whom it went into battle; and to be loved by all those friends at home and in the many countries through which it journeyed and in which it fought. And it was they who by their supreme sacrifice bestowed an inspiration upon their comrades, both those with whom they served and those who came after.

These laid the world away; poured out the red
