The Spike or Victoria College Review 1937
Once I would have said—
"There is nothing of confining here
no hemming in
between the deliberate dissonance of walls,
naught but the full quick-flowing beauty
of water curving round a stone."
And Now "Empty—
Empty are the ways of this land,
as empty as a Lord Mayor's laugh.
Empty—yes and bitter
—bitter as the unvintageable sea."
