Basketball

Basketball.

Saturday last saw two very reluctant Varsity teams turning out at Mt. Cook. There was a high wind and when the game commenced the rain did also. The Varsity court was probably in the windiest corner of the ground and accurate shooting was impossible. Fortunately for Varsity, the centres managed to keep the ball in their own goal third, for whenever the ball went down to Kia Toa in the first half of the game a goal was scored. The Kia Toa goals are a splendid combination.

At half-time the score stood at 10-6 in Kia Toa's favour. Though the courts were very wet and slippery, both teams felt they would lie to finish up the game, especially as it was impossible for them to get any wetter. And now Varsity began to play. Each girl played like clockwork and the whole team couldn't go wrong. The improvement was astounding. The defence played a stalwart game, the centres were quick, and the goals fielded and shot beautifully. And all in pelting rain. To the surprise of both sides the score at the finish was 20-26, win to Varsity. The Senior B's were unlucky to draw, 5 all.

Afterwards, the Senior A's played the reps. in the drill hall, just a practice match. However, conditions were not ideal, as all were so wet.
