Club Games

Club Games.

The First XV. has continuted its winning vein and is, at last, showing a semblance of combination. The wind hampered the backs in the Miramar game but in spite of this drawback, they had some nice passing movements. Larkin, a fourth-grade player, showed great promise at first five-eights, and Reid again demonstrated his ability to find the weak spots in the opponents' defence. The forwards played well as a pack, and Burke had a succcessful day's hooking. Blacker used his weight to advantage and Ruseell was not far be hind him, but the forwards had real success as a team.

Last Saturday was too wet to produce brilliant Rugby but, considering the greasy state of the ball, the backs handled excellently. Behind the scrum, Rae was in good form and he scored a great try. Cunliffe played a good loose forward game, but he spoils his game through getting in the way of other players. Eustage, a new player from Nelson, played a useful game for wet day conditions, while Blacker broke through with the ball on many occasions. While the backs did most of the scoring, we must not lose sight of the fact that Pirates were a back short and this somewhat lightened their task.

The last few games have seen a great improvement in the team and we anticipate some excellent Rugby for the final game.
