Training College — Fancy Dress Ball

Training College

Fancy Dress Ball

About the first half of the evening we can tell you nothing, as with our usual cunning we arrived just in time for supper. But we hear that it was very happy. Competitions and things. Supper, of course, was enjoyable. The tables were gaily decorated with large bowls of saveloy sausages. We got our complimentary ticket's worth.

The orchestra, which is apparently a native of the Training College, was surprisingly excellent. The prize for the best fancy dress, to our mind goes to Mr. McNicol as a sheep enci-nte. He might have been born to the part. One enterprising lassie, nothing deterred by the fact that it was the depth of winter appeared in tennis shorts. And very nice, too.

Many fascinating and intricate dances were danced. To name but a few, "Smad" was puzzled by the the Maxina, the "Gay Gordons," and the "Valita." It cn be well undertood what a shock these were to a simple country soul brought up on such old-fashioned dances as the Foxtrot, the walt and the tango. However, we made out, leaving, I fear, a trail of blisters and blasphemy behind us. Miss Margaret MacGreivy gave an excellent encored tap dance.

Among the notable faces present I noticed Mr. 'Bonk' Scotney (of vaudeville fame) and Mr. Edgley (Weir's contribution to the Exec.).

There was no Commissionaire. and though I hate to disappoint the Professorial Board, there was no drunkenness.
