Capping Ceremony

Capping Ceremony.

Dear Smad.

I must voice a protest against the unthinking uproar at the capping ceremony. Humour and brightness we hope for, but when this Haeremai humour descends to obliterating completely a speaker who is making an appeal for funds for a Students' Union Building, then I think it has gone too far. At the Undergrads' supper we cheerfully acclaim a slogan, "A Students' Union Building for 1937." And the first manifestation of this spirit is the drowning of a speaker making such an appeal. May I appeal to the leaders of the Haeremai Club to use a little initiative in making use of their opportunities, so that, having decided to hold a flour-fight, they do not barge straight into it irrespective of whatever else may he happening. We do not want to appear more ridiculous than possible in the eyes of the public.

Graduate.
