The Spike or Victoria University College Review September 1927

Ave Atque Vale

Ave Atque Vale.

The Executive of the Students' Association held a social evening in the Gymnasium towards the end of the second term for the purpose of farewelling Mr. Kalaugher, M.A., B.Sc., our Rhodes Scholar, and Mr. R. M. Campbell, M.A., L.L.B., ex-President of the Students' Association, who has carried off the Post Graduate Travelling Scholarship in Arts. Items by the orchestra, and a violin solo by Miss Reid formed part of an enjoyable programme. Mr. Paul made a short speech referring to Mr. Kalaugher's achievements both in academic and athletic fields, and on behalf of the students made him a small presentation, wishing him the best of luck.

Mr. Rollings presented Mr. Campbell with a gift of books on behalf of the Debating Society.

Mr. Kalaugher replied briefly, Mr. Campbell gave a characteristic and impassioned harangue on the subject of night lectures.

Supper was then partaken of, the gathering became informal and the gayer spirits adjourned upstairs for dancing till eleven o'clock, when proceedings were closed by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
