Soldier's Song

Soldier's Song.
Happy the day when Chance is lord,
And careless ease keeps watch and ward
O'er woe and fear;
There's nought on earth to mar or mend,
But still we snatch what heaven may send
In full career.
Happy the day of careless joys,
When still the heady trumpet's noise
Clangs out pale gloom!
For life and luck are very fair,
And he doth rule the very air
Who laughs at doom.
