Glee Club

'Twas jerky, spasmodic, and harsh, I'm aware,
But still it distinctly suggested an air.

Female academic writing the words Glee Club on paper

YET another youthful member for V. C. to welcome to its brotherhood of Clubs, and a sturdy youngster, to boot, if an initial membership of between thirty and forty enthusiasts may be so accounted. This is a notable achievement for prosaic V. C. and one which will surely excuse the most buoyant vanity on the part of its newly-discovered son-birds. For we are blushingly forced to confess "We were not ever thus."Looking back to primeval ages we certainly have dim recollections of a small "friendly body" that occasionally collected itself together, for the heroic purpose of attempting to mitigate the tuneless savagery of its fellow-swots. But alas ! the "body" perished; and the few (most few) subsequent stray songsters that vainly searched within academic boundaries for their Eldorado went unrewarded and unrecorded. Genius will out. For a brief month of last year the melodious spirits made a second heroic stand, and, as the tuneful aesthetic agents of the Carnival, may be fairly said to have crowned themselves with glory. But, hilarities over, they, too, passed away, and once more the "tuneless savagery" reigned supreme.

It was not till the present session that business and art seriously combined, and having elected officers " many of charming variety," and embodied rights and liberties impressive blossomed forth s a veritable, unassailable, bona fide Club. " Cead mille faithe," gleeful ones! We want you all, and many more. Long may soothing melodies hover " sweet and low " within our walls. Long may your harmonies — but "Tempus fugit." My lamp burns low. "Good Night Beloved."
