Translation.

This is the word of us the Chiefs of the Ngati Pa, a tribe living at the mouth of the 1853. 20 AprilLower Waikato District. Waikato River.

This is a Deed of Grant from us to Governor Grey as land for Queen Victoria and her heirs for ever.

Rangikariri. Yes! Governor Grey consented to this that the land should be given to the Church of Grant for Church of England school. England in New Zealand as land for the Schools for the European and Native children to cause them to grow up as Church members and in good behaviour.

Governor Grey consented that the place for the dead should be separated and fenced lest the cattle &c. should trample on it.

Boundaries. These are the boundaries of the aforesaid place of Rangikariri—On the West the River Tapairu; going along the River Taupari to Te Rua o Patiki, going on in a straight line to the swamp at Waiwaia—Waiwaia the boundary on the East, the Waikato the boundary on the North.

These are our names written this day the twentieth day of April, in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ one thousand eight hundred and sixty three.
