Translation.

We have received on this day the 5th of April 1861 the sum of thirty eight pounds 1861. 5 April. Waitara. £38, this is a portion of the payment on account of our land at Waitara, Manukau, which we have shewn to the Government Surveyor, when we are all assembled together Receipt for £38, advance. then the balance of the money due will be paid to us.
