Translation.

1854. 2 October.Manukau District.We two have received on this second (2) day of October 1854, the sum of Thirty pounds (£30) once told, being the first instalment for a certain portion of our land named Matakawau in the Manukau District. The Boundaries. The portion for the Matakawau. Europeans commences at Te Kouru o Rangiriri, thence to Ohau, thence to Matauroa Boundaries. and thence to the West Coast.

This land adjoins te Kawakawa, the land which was sold by Ahipene, Heta and Wetere some time since. And when the land has been completely sold surveyed then will the concluding arrangements be made for the final amount of the purchase of this land for the Queen.

Receipt for £30, first instalment. These monies were paid to us by Mr. McLean through the hands of Mr. Kemp
