Translation.

We have received at the hands of Mr. McLean the sum of £50 Fifty Pounds on this 1854. 12 April. the 12th day of April 1854 as a payment for a portion of our Land which we have this day sold to Victoria the Queen of England under the shining sun of the present day Whaingaroa District and to the Kings or Queens who may succeed her for ever and ever.
The payment we agree to receive for this land is two hundred pounds (£200) Te Hutiwai. out of which we have received the sum of Fifty pounds but when the land is properly Receipt for £50 surveyed and laid down then shall the payment be finally made.
The boundary of the Land commences at Matahaihai from thence to the northern Boundaries side of Waitomotomo it then follows the northern side of te Korou until it reaches Korainui from thence to te Hutiwai it here ascends at the river of Ngaiwiturua from thence to Opotoru the end of the boundary there is at te Rere from thence to Pokarangi here it finishes.

And having received these monies we hereunto sign our names and marks.
