Translation.
This Deed written on the twenty seventh 27 day of December
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty six 1856 is the
consent of us the Chiefs and People of a branch of the Ngatiwhatua fully to give
up our Land called Hikurangi to 1856. 27 December.Manukau District. Victoria the Queen of England and to the Kings and Queens after her.
Hikurangi.
And in consideration of our sacred consent to give up all the Land contained in
the Hikurangi block the boundaries of which have been surveyed by the Government
the Queen of England on her part consents to pay us the sum of Fifty pounds £50
and this sum of Fifty pounds £50 has been received by us this day from
Donald McLean
Receipt for £50 final payment. Esquire which sum is the final payment, and we sell and make over this
Land Hikurangi with all things appertaining to it to be held by Victoria the
Queen of England for ever and ever.
This is the final payment for our lands Paeoterangi Puotahinga and Hikurangi
which has been surveyed in accordance with the provisions of a former deed
written on the twenty first 21st day of June one thousand eight hundred and
fifty four 1854 namely "when this Land shall have been surveyed the sum of Fifty
pounds £50 will be paid" which sum we now receive on this twenty seventh 27 day
of December one thousand eight hundred and fifty six.
