Translation.

1849. 2 August.Mount Smart No. I.This Deed written on the second day of August one thousand eight hundred and forty nine is an agreement between William Hobson and Te Manea Chiefs of Nga te Whatua and of the Queen of England on her own behalf Whereby we William Hobson and Te Manea the owners of the piece of Land described within this Deed consent to sell this piece of Land to Queen Victoria in consideration of the sum of ten pounds sterling now given to us wherefore we give and deliver up to Victoria Queen of England and to Her Successors for ever this piece of land with all thereto belonging; the boundaries of it Boundaries. are these On the West there is Crown Land 2646—667—5665 links and land belonging to Thomas Henry 2860 links on the North there is the land of Patrick Lundun 2000 and 1390 links where the boundary meets or runs into the road from Auckland to Papakura farther on there is the land of Mr. Graham on the East there is the land of Mr. Williams and Crown Land till the boundary reaches the Manukau water on the South the water is the boundary which is all; this piece of land is near Oneunga and Rarotonga Mount Smart is included in it, the plan is described on the other side of this Deed.

Receipt for £10. We have received the sum of Ten pounds sterling as mentioned in this Deed in sign of which we sign our two names the second day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine.
