Translation.
This Deed written on this Twenty sixth day of November in
the Tear of our Lord
26 November., 1862 1862 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs
and People of the Tribe Ngatiwhatua whose names are hereunto subscribed And
Witnesseth that on
Kaipara District. behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing
this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred
unto Victoria Queen of
Matawhero No. I. England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and
Their Assigns for ever in consideration of the Sum of Six hundred and eighty
five Pounds (£685 . 0 . 0) to us paid by Mr. Rogan on behalf of the Queen
Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that
piece of our Land situated at

Kaipara and named Matawhero the boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot
of this Deed and a plan of which Land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals
waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said Land or beneath the
surface of the said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever
thereon. To Hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession
absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the
conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in
testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the
conditions of this Deed the name of Mr. Rogan Commissioner
Boundaries. [5,480 acres.] is hereunto subscribed. These are the boundaries of the Land commencing
at Kawakawa at Te Papa and thence on to Tamakoriata on the survey lines bearing
262°. 30′. 2600 links 270°. 40′. 5100 links, 271°. 30′. 2590 links 269°. 10′. 12
. 030 links and thence on to Te Kanohi continuing thence along the surveyed line
until it reaches one end of the Komakoriki, 270°. 30′. 4212 links, 272°. 0′.
3908 links and thence along the survey line to Te Kuru 255°. 0′. 11 . 115 links
266°. 30′. 2995 links 250°. 0′. 700 links where it joins Waitoki and Parikakau.
It then goes along the stream or water of Waitoki to the surveyed line bearing
80°. 36′. 2027 links 176°. 40′. 35500 links 79°. 20′. 10 . 800 links 74°. 40′.
6687 links where it reaches the Kaipara river and thence on to Matawhero, Te
Karae and following round until it reaches Te Kawakawa the point of
commencement.
24 acres at Karae surrendered to Government. There are 24 acres at Te Karae which have been given over to the
Government.

two pounds 10/- sterling (£342 . 10 . 0) being the final consideration money
expressed in the above-written Deed to be paid by Mr. Rogan, on behalf of Her
Majesty the Queen to us.
