Translation.

1864. 22 November.This Deed written on this the twenty second day of November in the Year of our Lord 1864 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and People Whangarei District. of the Tribes Ngatiwai and Ngatimanaia whose names are hereunto subscribed And Witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing Matapouri. this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and their Assigns for ever in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty Pounds (£120 . 0 . 0) to us paid by William N. Searancke on behalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our Land situated on the East Coast and named Matapouri the boundaries whereof are page 179set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which Land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said Land or beneath the surface of the said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon To hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the name of William N. Searancke District Commissioner is hereunto subscribed. These are the boundaries of the Land commencing on the Coast at "Mimitu" and thence Boundaries. along the Coast to "Otara" and on to "Otito" whence it runs inland along the surveyed lines and down again to the Coast and on "Te Karo" whence it again runs inland to the large dry Kauri Tree, thence southerly to "Te Wairua" and on to "Parangarau" hence in an Easterly direction to "Te Ihu a Manaia" and on to "Owaitara" on the Coast and along the Coast to "Tawitirahi" "Raowera," "Taura a whata," "Wairua" "Otoki kiore," "Okahi" "Rauporoa," "Kukutauwa" and up "Tutukaka" harbour "Otaute," "Te Kauau," "Te Waipuna" to "Te Waharau" where it turns inland by "Waitaugi" up the Mountain to Pukearenga hence northerly to "Te Wera roa," "Tarawera" "Opepe" "Taiwhanaki" "Kauri nui" "Waipapa" to "Matanui" on the Range, here it turns towards the Coast on the Surveyed lines "Pukewhauwhau" "Waikaheke" "Te Oronga," "Te Wi" "Te Wai kaukau" and on to Mimitu where the boundaries commenced.

Received this twenty second day of November in the Year of Our Lord OneReceipt for £120. thousand eight hundred and sixty four (1864) the Sum of one hundred and twenty Pounds sterling (£120 . 0 . 0) being the final consideration money expressed in the above written Deed to be paid by William N. Searancke on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to us.

The Burial Ground at Tawitirahi is reserved for the Natives and not to exceedNative Reserves: Tawitirahi and Tokoroa. 10 Acres. Also our Plantation at Tokoroa is to be left for us to purchase from the Government at 10/- per Acre.
