Translation.

This Deed written at the Koutu at Whangarei on this second day of February in the 1858. 2 February.Whangarei District Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty eight is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us, the Chiefs and People of the Ngati Waru Tribe whose names are hereunto subscribed and witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves, our relatives te mata. and descendants, we have by signing this deed under the shining sun of this day, parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen of England, Her Heirs, the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Their Assigns for ever, all that piece of Land situated at Whangarei called Te Mata the boundaries of which are set forth as below in this Deed and a plan of which land is annexed thereto. The boundary commences at Boundaries. [11,108 acers.] the Hira aute Creek thence along the boundary line of the Maungakaramea Block till it joins the stream of Tauraroa thence along the course of the Tauraroa stream to Pokapu, thence along the boundary line of Pokapu till it falls into Tauraroa thence along its course to the source thence along the surveyed line of the Rua Rani Block to its termination when it turns to the east, and thence along the surveyed line of the Waipu Block to its termination it then turns to the north and goes from thence along the boundary line of the Ruakaka Block till it reaches Orua thence along the boundary line of Jonah's reserve named Kopuawaiwaha till it reaches the Mangapai Creek thence along the Creek to the Totara Reserve thence along the boundary of the Totara Reserve till it joins the Hira aute Creek thence along the said creek till it joins the boundary of the Maunga-Karamea Block the aforesaid point of commencement. (There is a Native Native Reserve, Kahuituki. Reserve within these boundaries named Kahuituki which has been surveyed and is marked yellow on the plan attached) with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said land or beneath the surface of the said land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon in consideration of the sum of six hundred pounds (£600) which we have received from the hands of John Grant Johnson Receipt for £600. Commissioner for the purchase of land and in testimony of which we have hereunto subscribed our names.
