Translation.

This Deed of Sale of Land executed at Waimahanga on this second day of October in 1857. 2 October.Whangarei District. the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and fifty seven is the consent of us the undersigned to the giving up of a portion of our land at Whangarei to the Queen Victoria of England and to Her Heirs, male or female for ever in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred pounds of money. Tamaterau is the name by which this land is Tamaterau. known, and is the same delineated on the map in the margin of this Deed. These are the boundaries, commencing at the sea side, thence along a surveyed line dividing the Boundaries. said land from Pukekaikutu up to the top of the range, thence along a surveyed line on the top of the range to the boundary of the Land we sold to Gorrie—thence along the boundary line of Waimahanga—thence along the boundary line of the Ohiwa Block till it reaches Waikaraka thence along the boundary line of waikaraka till it reaches the Harbour of Whangarei—thence along the sea shore to the point of commencement at Pukekaikutu. Now we hereby acknowledge to have received the before named sum of Receipt for £200. Two hundred pounds from the hands of John Grant Johnson a Commissioner for the purchase of Land from the Natives, and therefore consent, let go and thoroughly give up the said Land to the Queen Victoria of England and Her Heirs for ever, and in token of the same we do hereby sign our names.
