Translation.
This Deed of Sale of Land executed at Waimahanga on the eighth day of June in
the
1857. 8 June.Whangarei District year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven is the
consent of us the Chiefs and freemen of the Ngapuhi Tribe of the family of
Ngaitorongare to the giving up of a portion of our land at Whangarei
(Kaurihohore being the name by which this land is known) to the Queen Victoria
of England and to Her Heirs male or female after
Kaurihohore. her for ever in consideration of the sum of five hundred and fifty
Pounds the Land being that delineated on the plan in the margin of this Deed
commencing at the boundary of Paranui thence up the course of the river
Maugakino thence on the
Boundaries. [4,790 acres.] surveyed line to the river of Mangahahuru thence down the course of the
said river Mangahahuru to the branch stream at Orai thence to the great swamp of
the Wairua thence alongg the edge of the great swamp to Waihireri thence to
Kaurihohore thence

along the
surveyed line until it joins the boundary of the land we sold to Mr. Mair,
thence along the boundary of Mr. Mair's land to Paranui where it ends at the
point of
Receipt for£550. commencement. Now we hereby acknowledge to have received the said sum of
money Five hundred and fifty pounds £550 from the hands of
John Grant Johnson a Commissioner for the purchase of
Land from the Natives of New Zealand. In witness whereof and in token of consent
we do hereby subscribe our names this day above written.
