1856. 26 February.Bay of Islands District.This Deed or sale of land, Written on this the twenty sixth
26th day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and
fifty six 1856, is a Deed by which, we Omawake. the Chiefs; being the lawful owners of the soil, give our free and
true consent to sell or convey a portion of our land, to Victoria the Queen of
England, that is to say to the Government, the same to become its property,
for the use of the White people for ever and ever; This land is known by the
names of "Te Wiroa" and "Omawake."
