Translation.

This Deed written on this the eleventh day of June in the Year of our Lord 1864 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and People of the Tribes Nga Tihene and Nga Timanu whose names are hereunto subscribed And Witnesseth 1864. 11 June.Bay of Islands District. that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Ruapekapeka. Queen of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and Their Assigns for ever in consideration of the Sum of Three thousand eight hundred Pounds (£3,800. 0. 0) to us paid by Henry Tacy Kemp on behalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our Land situated at The Kawa Kawa and named Te Ruapekapeka the boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which Land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said Land or beneath the surface of the said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon To Hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the name of Henry Tacy Kemp District Commissioner is hereunto subscribed. Boundaries. These are the boundaries of the Land commencing at Otuihu or Pomare's Pa, from [24,150 acres.] page 68thence in a southerly direction and following the Surveyor's line until it crosses the Karetu Stream, from thence it still follows the line in a southerly direction until it reaches Te Ruapekapeka, it continues on the line until it reach Waiomio, then in a westerly direction to the point known as Te Oro, Te Hautapu until it joins Otiria, the new boundary line, joining the first purchase of the Kawa Kawa but the boundaries are more particularly and more minutely defined on the Plan to this Deed annexed:
Kaiwaka and Te Two small pieces (N.R.) near the entrance to The Karetu are hereby declared to Maire included. be within the Govt. Land, vizt. Kaiwaka—19 acres—amd Te Maire—11 acres:

And we also further agree that all Paths or Roads shall be carried thro' the lands of the Natives as well as of the Europeans and through any part thereof, that is to say upon any lines which shall be pointed out and approved by the Government.

Receipt for £3,800. Received this eleventh day of June in the Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty four (1864) the Sum of Three thousand Eight hundred Pounds sterling (£3800 . 0 . 0) being the consideration money expressed in the above-written Deed to be paid by Henry Tacy Kemp, Dist. Commr. on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to us.

Endorsement on Ruapekapaka Deed.

Translation of Endorsement.

1865. 13 June. Now also on the occasion of the recent survey by Mr. Fairburn we have sold and handed over to the Government 486 acres of land, being a portion of the Kahikatea Kawakawa Bush. Bush land situated on the main stream of the Kawakawa, containing seven hundred and forty five (745) acres, which we the Maories reserved from the former sale.
We have also received this day from the hand of Henry Kemp Dist. Com. Receipt for £1,106. £1106 . 0 . 0 being the sum agreed upon between us in payment for that Block of land.

In witness whereof we have affixed our names and marks to this document this 13th day of June in the year of our Lord 1865.
