Translation.

This Deed made or written on this the third day of February in the year of Our Lord 1858. 3 FebruaryBay of Islands District. one Thousand eight hundred and fifty eight 1858, is a Deed by which we the Chiefs being the rightful owners of the soil consent of our own free will to transfer a portion of Muriwhenua. this our Land to Victoria the Queen of England to become her possession for ever for the use and benefit of the White people for ever and ever. The principal name by which this piece of land is known is "Muariwhenua."

The boundaries of the Land are these.

Commencing on the Eastern side at a point known as "Takahonu," from thence to Boundaries. Motutengi, from thence to "Waimumuka" from thence towards the upper part of the "Houhoro Harbour" to a point where it takes a turn (according to Compass bearing) 557° 30',—thence towards the sea coast, thence to "Rarawa," excluding the Native Reserve for Paraone, containing 100 acres at "Houhora,"—from thence to "Perekopua" Reserve at Houhora excluded. [100 acres.] until it reaches "Wairahi" (this being the extremity of the boundary on the eastern side)—it then takes a turn and proceeds in a westerly direction to "Otumoroki," from thence until it reaches the sea on the western Coast at a well known Rocky Point called Te "Arai,"—here it turns, and follows the western coast line until it reaches the southern extremity of the boundary at a point called "Waimoho," then turning in an easterly direction it proceeds towards, and joins the interior line of the "Wharemaru" Block,—it follows that line down, until it meets again at "Takahonu" where the boundary line commenced. The Boundary lines of this Block are notwithstanding more minutely described upon the plan made by the Surveyor, when the land was marked off and sold to the Crown.
And inasmuch as we have this day given our consent to convey or transfer this land Receipt for £1,000. to the Queen of England She has in consideration thereof paid to us the Sum of One thousand Pounds (£1,000) sterling which money has been paid into our hands by Mr. Henry Kemp one of the Government Officers for the purchase of land in New Zealand, And in token of our assent and of the receipt of the money we have hereunto affixed our names and marks on this the third day of February 1858.
