Translation.
This Deed made this twentieth day of March 1874. Know all men that the
Government 1874. 20 March. has agreed to give back to Ngatikahungunu a portion of that land
situated in the Poverty Bay District. Turanga District and confiscated by the Government in consequence of the
tribes having participated in the rebellion. Now we do hereby convey unto the
Queen her heirs and assigns the said portion to be given back to us out of that
Block of land known as Patutahi Patutahi. Block for the sum of Six hundred and seven pounds £607 (paid to us this
day by Receipt for £607. Capt. Porter) and now we entirely surrender the said portion of land
unto the Queen her heirs and assigns to hold the same for ever and we shall have
no further claim to land—returned to us by the Government—hereafter from this
date.
