Translation.

1871. 25 January.Taupo District.This Deed made the Twenty fifth day of January One thousand eight hundred and seventy one Between Te Poihipi Tukairangi Hamuera Takurua Paora Hapimana Hurwaka Maniapoto Te Hina Te Popoki Te Kurupae and Ihakara Kahuao all of the Taupo District in the Province of Auckland Aboriginal Natives of New Zealand of the one Tauhara, Middle, No. 2. part and Her Majesty Queen Victoria of the other Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of (£100) One hundred pounds to the said Te Poihipi Tukairangi Hamuera Receipt for £100. Takurua Paora Hapimana Huriwaka Maniapoto Te Hina Popoki Te Kurupae and Ihakara Kahuao paid by Her Majesty the Queen They the said Te Poihipi Tukairangi Hamuera Takurua Paora Hapimana Maniapoto Te Hina Popoki Te Kurupae and Ihakara Kahuao Do hereby cede grant convey and assure unto the said Her Majesty the Queen her successors and assigns All that piece or parcel of land situate in the Taupo District being a portion of the Block of land commonly called or known by the name of Tauhara Middle and containing by admeasurement Three hundred and eighty two acres one rood (382ac. lr. Op.) more or less and Bounded towards the North by a line Nine Boundaries. [382a. 1r. Op.] thousand five hundred and twenty three links (9523) towards the West by a line Two thousand three hundred and fifty (2350) links towards the South West by a line Sixty nine Hundred (6900) links towards the South East by a line Thirty eight hundred (3800) links and towards the East by a line Thirty five Hundred (3500) links as the said parcel of land is delineated on the plan drawn in the Margin hereof Together with the rights members and appurtenances to the said parcel of land belonging or appertaining To Hold the said parcel of land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto her said Majesty the Queen her successors and assigns for ever In witness whereof the said Te Poihipi Tukairangi Hamuera Takurua Paora Hapimana Huriwaka Maniapoto Te Hina Te Popoki Te Kurupae and Ihakara Kahuao have hereunto subscribed their names the day and year first above written.

Declaration of Christopher Maling. I, Christopher Maling, of Taupo, in the Province of Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, Licensed interpreter under "The Native Lands Act, 1865," and "The Native Lands Act, 1867," do solemnly and sincerely declare—
  • 1. The translation of the within Deed of Conveyance, dated the Twenty-fifth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one, hereunto annexed and marked A, is a correct translation thereof.
  • 2. I am acquainted with Poihipi Tukairangi, Hamuera Takurua, Ihakara Kahuao, Popoki te Kurupae, and Hemopo te Rahui, of Tapuaeharuru, Taupo District, Province of Auckland, Aboriginal Natives of New Zealand.
  • 3. That I was present with the said Poihipi Tukairangi, Hamuera Takurua, Ihakara Kahuao, Popoki te Kurupae, and Hemopo te Rahiu on Wednesday the Twenty-fifth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one, when I carefully read over to the said Poihipi Tukairangi, Hamuera Takurua, Ihakara Kahuao, Popoki te Kurupae, and Hemopo te Rahui the said within Deed of Conveyance and the said annexed translation thereof, and the contents thereof were fully understood by them previous to their respective execution thereof.
  • 4. The said within Deed of Conveyance and the said annexed written translation thereof were executed by the said Poihipi Tukairangi, Hamuera Takurua, Ihakara Kahuao, Popoki te Kurupae, and Hemopo te Rahui on the said twenty-fifth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one, in the presence of myself and of Daniel Ross, Surveyor, of Tarawera, and Robert White, Telegraphist, of Tarawera aforesaid, male adult persons, who subscribed our names thereto respectively as the witnesses attesting the execution thereof respectively.
  • 5. And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of certain Acts of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled "The Jastices of the Peace Act, 1866," The Native Lands Act " and "The Native Lands Act, 1867."

Declared at Tarawera, in the Province of Auckland, this Twenty-seventh day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one. Before me—

Declaration of Gilbert Mair. I, Gilbert Mair, of Tauranga, in the Province of Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, Licensed Interpreter, under "The Native Lands Act 1865," and "The Native Lands Act, 1867," do solemnly and sincerely declare—
  • 1. That the translation of the annexed Deed of Conveyance dated the twenty-fifth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one, hereunto annexed and marked "A," is a correct translation thereof.
  • 2. I am acquainted with Mere Hapi and Maniapoto Taupo, Province of Auckland, Aboriginal Natives of New Zealand and successors of Paora Hapimana deceased.
  • 3. That I was present with the said Mere Hapi and. Maniapoto on Saturday the thirteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two, when I carefully read over to the said-Mere Hapi and Maniapoto the said annexed Deed of Conveyance and annexed translation thereof, and the contents thereof were clearly understood by them previous to their execution of the same.
  • 4. The said annexed Deed of Conveyance and Translation thereof were executed by the said Mere Hapi and Maniapoto on the said thirteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two, in the presence of myself and S. Locke, Esquire, Resident Magistrate of Napier, male adults, who subscribed our names thereto respectively as the witnesses attesting the execution thereof respectively.
  • 5. And I make this solemn Declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of certain Acts of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled "The Justices of the Peace Act, 1866," "The Native Lands Act, 1865," and "The Native Lands Act, 1867."
