Maori Deeds of Land Purchases in the North Island of New Zealand: Volume One



This Deed written on this twentieth day of the month of November in the year of our 1874. 20 November. Bay of Plenty District. Lord 1874 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and people of the tribe Ngatiwhakaue whose names are hereunto subscribed and witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen Parish Matata, Allot. 27, No. 1. of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and their assigns for ever in consideration of the sum of eight hundred and forty pounds (£840 . 0 . 0) to us paid by Charles Oliver Bond Davis and Henry Walker Mitchell on Receipt for £840. behalf of the Queen Victoria and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our land situated at Te Awa a te Atua and named Allotment 27 Parish of Matata, the boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said land or beneath the surface of the said land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereto To hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the names of Charles Oliver Bond Davis and Henry Walker Mitchell are hereunto subscribed. These are the boundaries of the land, towards the Boundaries. [4,818 acres.] North by allotment twelve one hundred and thirty six chains and seventy links, towards the East by allotment twenty one, eight thousand two hundred and seventy links, again towards the North by allotment twenty one aforesaid six thousand five hundred links, towards the North West by allotment twenty, nine thousand five hundred links, thence crossing a road one hundred and ninety four links, and again by allotment twenty aforesaid three thousand two hundred links, towards the North East by the Tarawera page 660River, towards the South East by allotment twenty nine nine thousand three hundred and sixty links, thence crossing a road one hundred and eight links, thence by allotment twenty nine aforesaid four thousand and sixteen links, thence by allotment twenty nine aforesaid and allotment twenty eight two hundred and fifty four chains and towards the West by allotment sixty three two hundred and thirty four chains and seventy links intersected from North to South by a road one hundred links wide, containing four thousand three hundred and eighteen acres more or less in the whole block.
