1874. 8 March.Bay of Plenty District.This Deed made the eighth day of March 1874 in the year one
thousand eight hundred and seventy four, Between Te Poihipi Tukairangi, Hohepa
Tamamutu and Ihakara Kuhuao Aboriginal Chiefs of the Colony of New Zealand on
behalf of the members of the Parish Matata, Allot. 23, No.
2. Ngatituwharetoa tribe hereinafter called the vendors of the one part and
Her Majesty Queen Victoria of the other part Witnesseth that in consideration of
the sum of Two hundred and fifty two pounds sterling (£252 . 0 . 0) paid by Her
said Majesty to the Receipt for £252. vendors (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) they the vendors do
and each of them doth hereby surrender convey and assure unto Her said Majesty
her heirs and successors, All that parcel of land in the Province of Auckland in
the Colony of New Zealand containing by admeasurement two thousand three hundred
and ninety six acres more or less and being allotment number Twenty three in the
Parish of Matata and Boundaries. [2,396 acres.] County of Rutland, Bounded towards the North by allotments numbers
fifteen sixteen seventeen and fourteen Two hundred and seven chains, thence
crossing a road one hundred and seven links and by allotment number one, one
hundred and two chains and twenty links, towards the East by the Tarawera River,
towards the South by allotment number twenty two nine thousand nine hundred and
fifty links thence crossing a road one hundred and eighteen links thence by
allotment number twenty two aforesaid, two hundred and fourteen chains and
seventy links and towards the West by Allotment number twelve seven thousand six
hundred and thirty links as the same is delineated by the plan drawn hereon
edged red, with all the rights and appurtenances thereunto belonging to hold the
same unto Her said Majesty her heirs and successors for ever. In Witness Whereof
the said parties have hereunto subscribed their names.
