Translation.
1854. 11 January.Whaingaroa District.This Deed entered into on the 11th day of January in the year
1854 The consenting of the Chiefs of the Ngatitahinga and Tainui, The consenting
also of the Queen of England on her part Now the Chiefs of the Ngatitahinga and
Tainui the persons who consent are the owners of the land as described in this
Deed to sell this land to Queen Te Mata, Part Of. Victoria Queen of England for the sum of £30 . 0 . 0 given now into our
hands for which we give and make over to the Queen of England all right and
title whatsoever to Boundaries. this Land. The Boundaries are as follows—On the North by the Government
cut line from the Opotoru Creek to a hole dug by C. W. Ligar Esquire, on the
South from the aforesaid hole to the root of the Totara tree as left by William
Naylor on making a canoe of said Tree this root of the Totara tree being close
to the Opotoru Creek, on the West by the Opotoru Creek.
A sketch of this land is on the back of this Deed.
