1857. 2 December.Whaingaroa District.This Deed executed this second (2) day of December in the
Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven is the final
Surrender final Sale and Conveyance by the Chiefs and people of the tribe of
Ngatitewehi whose names are hereunto subscribed in consideration of the sum of
One hundred and Seventy Pounds £170 to us

by some of us on the Eleventh (11) of the days of April 1854—on the
twelfth (12) of the days of same month £50 Fifty Pounds—on the fifth (5) of May
1854 One hundred Pounds £100 on the eleventh (11) of September 1855 Ten Pounds
£10— on the tenth (10) of October 1856 Thirty Pounds £30 (and we hereby
acknowledge the receipt of the said monies), of all that piece of our. Land
situated at Whangaroa and named Te Wharauroa unto Queen Victoria Her Heirs the
Kings or Queens who may succeed Her and Her assigns. The boundaries of the Land
commence at Pakoka
Boundaries. adjoining the Land which was given for school purposes some time since
at Maramatea Ahoaho and on to Manukariki and on to a stoney point theuce turning
and crossing to Whainui and on to Wahakihaki and crossing to Ngutupungarehu and
Mangawhero Ngapuhi Kainamunamu and on to Te Kiri thence it goes inland to
Pakaraka Te Whataipu thence on through the forest to Te Ohe at the Pakihi Creek
and thence on to the Tuporotangiroa mountain according to compass 50° 0′ thence
on by side of Wahatane to the land sold by Hemi Matini and on to Te
Waiwherowhero at Waitetuna thence on in the Waitetuna river thence to Tawataeaka
thence turning and going on to Whau rimu to the dead Rimu (tree) thence along
the Survey line to Patoa Pukeruru Tukuwaru and to Tutaenui thence on in the
Tutaenui Creek to the Boundary of Mr. Ligar's purchase thence along the inland
boundary of Mr. Ligar's purchase to the Awhea thence descending to the Pakoka
river thence going along the inland Boundary of the School land and on to
Maramatea Ahoaho where the boundaries join With its Trees Minerals

Plains Forests and All appertaining to the said Land above the surface of the
land or below the surface of the land and all the Right Title Interest Claim and
Demand whatsoever of Us and each of Us hereunto subscribed to the said Land Now
we have for ever given up and wept over bidden farewell to and transferred under
the shining sun of this day that Land which descended to us from our Forefathers
the boundaries whereof have been above recited and the Plan whereof is attached
to this Deed as a lasting possession to the Queen and Her Assigns absolutely for
ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the Conditions contained in this
Deed we have hereunto signed our names and marks. And in testimony of the
consent of Mr. Rogan for Her Majesty The Queen to all the conditions contained
in this Deed he also has signed his name.
