Translation.
1857. 20 August.Whaingaroa District.Know all men by these Presents that on this twentieth (20th)
day of August in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and fifty seven
1857 We the Undersigned Aboriginal Native Chiefs and Aboriginal Natives of New
Zealand in Consideration of the Sum of Twenty Pounds £20 to Us paid by John
Rogan Esquire on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Victoria (the Receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged) Do and each of Us Part of Te Mata Blocl. Doth hereby Sell Release and Convey unto Her said Majesty Queen Victoria
Her Heirs Successors or Assigns all that Piece or Parcel of Land known by the
name of Te Mata. The boundary of the Land commences at a point a little below
the rapid of Opotoru which was marked by the Surveyors thence on along Mr.
Rogan's survey line till it crosses the road to Aotea thence on to the end of
the said survey line and on to Paraoa thence along the ridge of Paraoa till it
comes due opposite to Pokawaenga thence on to Pokawaenga thence to Opotoru
thence up the stream of Opotoru till it strikes Mr. Rogan's survey line.
And all the Rights and Appurtenances thereunto belonging and all the Right
Title Interest Claim and Demand of Us and each of Us the Undersigned therein and
thereto to Hold the said Land and Appurtenances unto Her said Majesty Her Heirs
and Assigns absolutely for ever. In Witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed
our Names.
