Tokoroa Block, Patetere, Waikato District.

5th May 1874..Waikato District.Know all men by these presents that I Edwin Torrens Brissenden in the deed hereunto annexed mentioned and made between Eruera Te Hano Tu Hakopa Ngapeka Tireni and Matenga Te Tiaki of the one part and the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden of Tokoroa. the other part in consideration of all money expended by the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden for on account of or in respect of the land described in the said deed hereunto annexed having been repaid to him on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Victoria (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) He the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden doth hereby assign transfer and assure unto Her Majesty Queen Victoria All and every right Assignment. title interest claim and demand whatsoever which He the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden hath or possesses in to or in respect of all that parcel of land in the Province of Auckland situate between Te Whitu and Te Whakamaru in the District of Waikato known by the name of Te Tokoroa as the same is more fully described in the said deed hereunto annexed To hold to Her Majesty Queen Victoria her heirs and successors. In Witness Whereof the said parties have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals.

Lease from Eruera and Others to E. T. Brissenden, Auckland.

1873. 10 March.Lease of Tokoroa Block to Edwin T. Brissenden.This Deed made the Tenth day of March One thousand eight hundred and seventy three between Eruera Te Hau o Tu Hakopa Ngapaka Tireni Hangina Matenga Te Tiaki All of the District of Waikato in the Province of Auckland and Colony of New Zealand Aboriginal Natives of the one part and Edwin Torrens Brissenden of the City page 592of Auckland in the said Province Gentleman of the other part Witnesseth that in consideration of the rent hereinafter reserved and the covenants and agreements herein contained or implied by virtue of the conveyancing ordinance of New Zealand on the lessee's part to be performed and kept They the said Natives do and each of them doth hereby demise and lease unto the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden his executors administrators and assigns All that parcel of land in the Province of Auckland containing by admeasurement more or less situate between Te Whetu and Te Whakamaru in Boundaries. the District of Waikato County known by the name of Te Tokoroa, Bounded by a line commencing at Te Pakurangi thence Easterly crossing the Pokai whenua and Manga Aahia Streams and to Wharepapa Te Rua Whanga Kahui tangaroa Ou Pakau thence from the last point Southerly to Te Whakatutu thence by the boundary of the block reserved at the Native Settlement at Te Whetu and then following the edge of the Patetere forest Te Whakaironga Kopuranui thence along the edge of the Patetere forest Takapu ahi ma Te Rangi tu maro Te Kura rewa Wai Maruru Te Pouhoho Pani o rehua thence Westerly along the ridge Pukerimu Te Uranoa Te Rore Kaho Te Waiu Te Whakatutu Te One Pu Maungataperi Te Whakakaho Te Roto a Putao Koura Nui Whakarongo Te Waipuna Matama raeroa thence Easterly to Te Teko thence Northerly to Te One Pu Te Pakurangi.
As the same is delineated by the plan drawn hereon with all the rights and appurtenances hereunto belonging To hold the same unto the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden his executors administrators and assigns for the term of Twenty one years from the time the said land shall pass through the Native land Court when the said Natives their heirs executors or assigns agree to execute another deed similar to the present one in favor of the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden his executors administrators or assigns. Yielding paying therefor unto the said Natives their heirs or assigns the yearly rental of £500 per annum. Five hundred pounds sterling by even and equal half yearly payments the first payment thereof to be made on the day the said Natives their heirs or assigns execute the second Deed herein mentioned And the said Natives do and each of them doth for them for their heirs executors and administrators jointly and severally covenant and promise and agree to and with the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden his executors administrators and assigns that they shall not nor will not during the continuance of the term hereby created sell or dispose of the land hereby demised or any part thereof to any person or persons other than the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden his executors administrators or assigns. Provided always and it is hereby declared and agreed by and between the said parties hereto that incase default shall be made by the said Edwin Torrens Brissenden his executors administrators or assigns for three months in payment of the rent hereby reserved or of the covenants conditions and agreements herein contained or implied on his part to be performed and kept then and in any or either of the said cases it shall be lawful for the said Natives their heirs or assigns thereupon or at any time thereafter into and upon the said demised premises or any part thereof in the name of the whole to re-enter and the same to have again repossess and enjoy as of their former estate.

8th April, 1873.Receipt for £25. Received from George Walker this day a further advance on account of the rent hereafter due on this block of land being a sum of Twenty five pounds Stg. (£25).
