1857. 24 November.Thames District.This Deed of Sale of land executed this Twenty Fourth (24)
day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty
seven 1857, is the final surrender final sale and conveyance by us the Chiefs
and people whose names are hereunto
Aotungaio. subscribed in consideration of the sum of One hundred and fifty Pounds
(£150)
Receipt for £150. to us paid by Donald McLean Esqre on behalf of Queen Victoria (and we
hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) of all. that piece of our
land situated at Te Waiho unto Queen Victoria Her Heirs the Kings or Queens who
may succeed Her
Boundaries. and Her assigns, namely that piece of land the boundaries whereof
commence at the creek called Te Totara going 15°—250 links along the eastern
bank, thence following Te Ara Takahi—550° —100 links 30° 40(—2000 links—117°
30(—3250 links to Tunuhaere, thence 295° 15( 4690 links to Te Toke, thence 196°
50(—1556 links to Te Akatea thence 277° 23(—2383 links Otuhoiti to Ahi tu
Tawhaki, thence Nga Mokopuna, Ruru Nui, Paraoa Nui, Ihi Kapua 198° 8(—6044 links
thence 133° 12(—2054 links, to the head of a small creek called Omoekau
following the creek down to the river Thames (Waiho) and then westerly along the
bank of the Thames to the mouth of the creek known as Te Totara. In
consideration of the sum of Twenty Pounds £20 given us this day by Geo. W.
Drummond Hay Esqre we consent to the final surrender of our

land with its trees, minerals, waters, lakes,
streams, good places and bad, plains, forests, and all appertaining to the said
land above the surface of the land or beneath the surface of the land and all
the right, title, interest, claim and demand whatsoever of us and each of us
hereunto subscribed to the said land. Now we have for ever given up and wept
over bidden farewell to and transferred under the shining sun of this day that
land which descended to us from our forefathers the boundaries whereof have been
above recited and the plan whereof is attached to this Deed as a lasting
possession to the Queen and Her assigns absolutely for ever. And in testimony of
our consent to all contained in this Deed we affix our signatures and our
marks—and in testimony of the consent of Geo. W. Drummond Hay Esqre on behalf of
the Queen to all contained in this Deed, he also signs his name—

to us by Geo. W. Drummond Hay Esqre.
