Declaration of James
Mackay jun. I James Mackay the younger of Auckland in the Province of Auckland in New Zealand a duly
authorized Interpreter under the Native Lands Act 1865, 1867, 1869, and 1870 do
solemnly and sincerely declare—
language and that my translation thereof was correct and was perfectly
understood by the said Tamati Waka te Puhi, Rangitehau and Aherata te Mihinui.
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true
and by virtue of certain Acts of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled
The Native Lands Act 1865, The Native Lands Act 1867, The Native Lands Act 1869,
The Native Lands Act 1870 and the Justices of the Peace Act 1866.
1st | That I was present on the eighteenth day of August one thousand eight hundred and seventy one together with Henry William Rowe of Shortland in the Province of Auckland aforesaid Licensed Surveyor a mal adult and did see Tamati Waka te Puhi, Rangitehau and Aherata te Mihinui named and described in the within written Deed duly sign and execute the same. |
2st | That the signature Tamati Waka te Puhi thereto subscribed was made by the said Tamati Waka te Puhi and the marks x x thereto set were made by the said Rangitehau and Aherata te Mihinui respectively. |
3st | That before the execution of the said Deed by the said Tamati Waka te Puhi, Rangitehau and Aherata te Mihinui I did translate the same to them into the Maori |
