1871. 18 August.Hauraki District.This Indenture and Deed made the eighteenth day of August in the Tear of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy one between Tamati Waka te Puhi Rangitehau and Aherata te Mihinui all of Shortland in the Province of Auckland in the Colony of Wharau. New Zealand aboriginal Natives (hereinafter called the said Vendors) of the one part and Her Most Gracious Majesty Victoria of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, Defender of the Faith (hereinafter called Her said Majesty) of the other part, Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Five hundred and eighty nine pounds sterling paid by Edward Walter Puckey Esquire, Agent for Native Affairs in the said Thames District to the said Vendors before the execution of these presents the receipt whereof is by them jointly and severally hereby acknowledged, They the said Receipt for £589. Vendors do and each of them Doth hereby release convey and assure unto her said Majesty and her successors, All that block or parcel of land situate in the District of Hauraki in the Province of Auckland, Colony of New Zealand aforesaid and known as Te Wharau and Wairuaterangi containing by admeasurement three thousand eighty hundred and ninety one acres. Commencing at a point on the beach marked A by lines Boundaries. [3,891 acres.] running Eastward forty seven chains to Pukekai Atua thence by lines running Northward fifty three chains to a peg on Te Puru Creek, thence by Te Puru Creek, two hundred and sixty eight chains to a peg at the junction of Te Tautiti Creek, thence by Te Tautiti Creek sixty three chains, thence by a line Eastward five chains to Te Tautiti thence by lines along main range to Te Ruatine southward two hundred and forty five chains, thence Westward by lines one hundred and forty four chains to the source of the Otohi Creek, thence by Otohi Creek one hundred and sixty one chains, thence by a line Northward eight hundred and sixty links, thence by a line westward seven hundred and three links, thence by lines towards North East one thousand five hundred links, thence Northward by a line one thousand nine hundred and ninety four links, thence Westward by a line one thousand two hundred and thirty links, thence southward by a line one thousand two hundred links to a peg on Pokopokoura Creek, thence Westward by Pokopokoura Creek five hundred links, thence Northward by a line one thousand links, thence Westward by a line one hundred and ninety one links, to a peg on the Sea Beach, thence, Northward by Sea Beach three hundred and thirty links, thence Eastward by a line four hundred and forty links, thence Northward by lines two thousand three hundred links, thence Eastward by lines eight hundred and ninety nine links, thence Northward by a line six hundred and twenty three links to a peg on Waiwhero Creek thence Westward by Waiwhero Creek to a peg on Sea Beach one thousand two hundred links, thence Northward by Sea Beach one thousand five hundred and ten links to a point marked A as the same is delineated in the plan drawn on the other side hereof edged pink, with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging, To hold the said block or parcel of land unto page 472Her said Majesty and Her successors and assigns for ever, And the said Vendors in consideration of the sum of Five hundred and eighty nine pounds sterling, Do and each of them doth hereby also release grant convey and assure unto Her said Majesty her successors and assigns, All and every the title interest and interests right and rights privilege and privileges of the said Vendors and each and every of them that may now exist or be supposed to exist in and to the foreshore of the said land hereby conveyed with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging or therewith usually held and enjoyed. To hold the same unto Her said Majesty her successors and assigns for ever. In witness whereof the said Vendors have hereunto set and subscribed their names the day and year first hereinbefore written.
