Kauaeranga B 13A Block, Hauraki District.

1873 29 AugustHauraki District. This Deed made the Twenty ninth day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy three, Between. Meha Te Moananui, Aperahama Te Reira, Mango Kauaeranga B XIIIa. Whaiapu, Ngapari, and Aihepepene of the District of Hauraki, in the Province of Auckland in the Colony of New Zealand Aboriginal Natives hereinafter termed the Receipt for £77. said Natives of the one part and Her Majesty Queen Victoria of the other part Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Seventy Seven Pounds paid by Her Majesty to the said Natives (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) the said Natives do hereby convey and assure release surrender and cede unto Her said Majesty Her heirs and successors All that portion of the Foreshore or parcel of land between high-water mark and low-water mark at The Thames in the District of Hauraki in the Province of Auckland aforesaid called or known by the name of Kauaeranga B 13a containing by admeasurement Fifteen acres — roods and — perches be the same more or less. Boundaries. [15 acres.] Bounded on the North by Kauaeranga B 13; on the South by Kauaeranga B 12a; on the East by Kauaeranga No. 13a; on the West by Low-Water Mark, as the same is delineated on the plan drawn hereon. With all the rights and appurtenances thereunto belonging And all other the estate right title interest and demand whatsoever if any of the said Natives in and to the said Foreshore or parcel of land and premises and every part thereof To have and to hold unto Her said Majesty Her heirs and successors for ever Provided always that this Deed and nothing herein contained or implied shall be deemed in any way to infringe upon or affect the undoubted prerogatives of Her said Majesty Her heirs and successors as the sole absolute Sovereigns of the whole territory of New Zealand its shores and waters. In Witness whereof the said parties have hereunto subscribed their names the day and year first hereinbefore written.

[Declaration of Edward Henry Power]

Declaration of Edward Henry Power. I, Edward Henry Power, of The Thames, in the Province of Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, Licensed Native Interpreter, do most solemnly and sincerely declare as follows, that is to say:—
  • 1. I did faithfully interpret into the Maori language the within Deed to Meha Te Moananui, Aperahama te Reira; Mango Whaiapu, Ngapari, and Aihepepene the parts named therein immediately before the execution of the said Deed by Meha Te Moananui, Aperahama Te Reira, Mango Whaiapu, Ngapari, and Aihepepene.
  • 2. My translation of the said Deed was correct and was understood by the said Meha Te Moananui, Aperahama Te Reira, Mango Whaiapu, Ngapari, and Aihepepene.
  • 3. The said Deed was executed by the said Meha Te Moananui, Aperahama Te Reira, Mango Whaiapu, Ngapari, and Aihepepene in the presence of Edward Walter Puckey, of the Thames, in the said Province of Auckland, Native Agent, and me this declarant.
  • 4. The name Edward Henry Power, set and subscribed as that of one of the witnesses attesting the due execution of the said Deed, is of my proper handwriting, and I hold a certificate authorizing me to act as an Interpreter under "The Native Lands Act, 1865," and "The Native Lands Act, 1867," which said certificate is in full force and effect.
  • 5. The name Edward Walter Puckey, set and subscribed as one of the witnesses attesting the due execution of the said Deed, is of the proper handwriting of the said Edward Walter Puckey, and that the said Edward Walter Puckey is a male adult.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of the said several, Acts and by virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand aforesaid intituled "The Justices of the Peace Act, 1866."
