I. District High Schools.

Number of free pupils in 1916 = 1,983.

Open free to Scholarship-holders and to holders of Certificates of Proficiency.

These District High Schools are widely established, and at one of them a pupil may receive free education until the age of seventeen years is reached. Here you will receive a good general education, and will learn also agriculture, dairy science, commercial work, and, in the case of a girl, needlecraft and cookery. The courses of instruction have an immediate practical value, for they bear more or less page 312 on the occupations of the people of the district.
