The Pamphlet Collection of Sir Robert Stout: Volume 82

[Telegram.] January 7, 1885, W. M. Hannay, Esq., Assistant General Manager N.Z. Railways, Wellington

[Telegram.]

W. M. Hannay,

Esq., Assistant General Manager N.Z. Railways, Wellington.

Your letter 31st ultimo received this morning. Directors intimated Minister willingness to adhere to present time-table, conditional upon Government trains meeting ours at Elbow daily, so as to admit of daily through service between Dunedin and Kingston, It was not intended to alter existing arrangements in other respects. Your proposal is for a tri-weekly service only, to which my Board not likely to agree. Prepared to recommend Board to agree not to alter time-table without giving three months' notice. See no objection to slight modification of time-table so long as it will leave sufficient time to satisfactorily work the traffic. Directors meet to-morrow, Say if you prepared to meet our trains daily at Elbow, as proposed at interview with Minister. Why not have put on trains to meet ours during holidays?

R. H. Leary,

Secretary Waimea Plains Railway Company.
