Auckland 352,667 5s. 40s. Soil varies from poor clays or light soil to good agricultural land; greater portion covered with heavy or light forest sufficient for fencing and building.
Hawkes Bay 38,257 5s. 40s. Soil good, surface broken; more suited for pastoral than agricultural purposes. Mostly open or interspersed with bush.
Taranaki 3,664 10s. 40s. Soil good; much volcanic, some marl, surface broken, excel-lent for grazing. Covered with bush and heavy timber.
Wellington. 87,166 10s. 40s. Nearly all good; marl or decomposed slates; limestone lands of eastern district are very rich and excellent for grass. Mostly forest.
Marlborough 9,313 10s. 30s. Soil generally fair; hills principally forest clad.
Nelson 257,481 6s. 40s. May be selected for cash or under 10 per cent. leasing system peculiar to Nelson; hilly country bush-covered, chiefly birch, mostly suited for glazing.
