Carcharodon rondeletii, Müller (Great Blue Shark). "The most formidable of all sharks. . . . It is known to attain a length of 40 ft. . . . Nothing is known of the anatomy, habits, and reproduction, and no opportunity should be lost of obtaining information on this shark."—Günther. Caught in Dunedin harbour, February, 1885.
