Preface.

The four sermons now published were announced as [unclear: sa] to the working-classes and others whose religious has been more or less disturbed by current objections [unclear: as] discussions of the day. One of the local newspapers, the [unclear: ing] Herald, published these addresses immediately upon [unclear: delivery], which has led to their being asked for not only by [unclear: those who] listened to them, but by others, including persons of high [unclear: scientific] attainments. The author, thus encouraged, sends forth sermons to the wider congregation of the general public [unclear: do] prayer that they may prove of use in the establishment of in our most holy Faith who are in danger of being lost [unclear: in] confusions of uncertain speculation; but in so publishing it is right that we should acknowledge his obligations [unclear: fr] of the scientific details of his argument to the authors of [unclear: the] papers read before the Victoria Institute of London, [unclear: mo] one by Professor Moore, of the University of [unclear: Michigan] "The Final Cause as Principle of Cognition and [unclear: Pr] Nature." It will also be observed that the first sermon [unclear: inductory] and intended to lead up to sincere and patient [unclear: tttt] into the important subject treated on, the author [unclear: being] convinced that truth has nothing to fear from the [unclear: state] amination, which, being humbly and faithfully [unclear: Prosec] only display its unshakable foundations—the foundation which the walls and towers of Zion are built.
